Conclusion
RMC3000/3080
are solutions of methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl,
CAS 12108-13-3. no significant impurities or heavy metals were
detected on analysis. Samples were devoid of impurities, and are
suitable for fuel blending without modification. |
RMC3000/3080 is an organic manganese compound designed to boost octane
levels in gasoline at an economical cost. In addition, when used at
very low levels in diesel fuel, it is a very effective smoke
suppressant. Scientists at Ethyl Corporation developed it in the 1950s
to reduce common engine knock in automobiles. The product has been
manufactured and marketed by Ethyl for more than twenty years. It has
been sold in Canada from the outset, and is currently used in the United
States, Europe, Asia, Australia, as well as Central and South America.
RMC3000/3080
provides a number of scientifically documented environmental benefits
while posing no harm to automotive emission systems or human health.
When added to gasoline at the refinery level,
it helps reduce refinery emissions of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas
that has been linked to global warming. When used in unleaded gasoline,
RMC3000/3080 can reduce exhaust pollutants such as oxides of nitrogen
and carbon monoxide, known contributors to urban smog. The US EPA has
acknowledged that vehicles using unleaded gasoline containing
RMC3000
average 15-20% lower tailpipe emissions of oxides of nitrogen (NOx).
RMC3000/3080 is one of the most comprehensively tested fuel additives
in history. When used as directed it is completely compatible with
modern emission control systems,
and has no known adverse human health effects. The long-term effect of
manganese exposure has been studied for decades and continues. These
studies, including one completed in 1998 by the Research Triangle
Institute (RTI) of North Carolina, support the existing scientific
evidence that RMC3000/3080 poses no health risk.
Because
RMC3000/3080
is a fuel
additive, a number of government and environmental regulations apply to
the product's continued safe use and distribution. Over the last 10
years, Ethyl Corporation has worked with governments around the world
and
has sponsored numerous scientifically designed vehicle and personal
exposure analyses through internal and independent test facilities.
Today, scientific data accumulated over more than 10 million miles of
driving proves RMC3000/3080 is safe and effective for use in unleaded
gasoline and diesel fuels.
RMC has developed
RMC3000/3080
based formulations for a wide variety of applications.
Some of these products are
registered with the US EPA for domestic on-highway applications.
Others are intended for similar use in countries where gasoline octane
quality is low, while others are specifically designed
for high performance off-road or racing applications. Finally, with
the imminent worldwide phase out of leaded gasoline, an opportunity has
arisen for an
RMC3000/3080
based formulation to provide protection
against valve seat recession (VSR), in the very large number of
vehicles, many of which are classics, which were designed to use leaded
gasoline. In the latter category, we have a formulation that is
officially approved by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs.
Description
RMC3000/3080
is an octane booster and emissions reducer for unleaded gasoline.
Use Information
Add to
unleaded gasoline at the required dosage rate of between 8 to 18 mg Mn/liter
(0.024 to 0.053 ml RMC3000-3080 / liter unleaded gasoline).

Handling Information
Ecotane®
3000 is toxic by inhalation, ingestion, and skin contact. Ecotane®
is extremely photosensitive and decomposes rapidly when exposed to
light. The half-life of Ecotane® vapor in air is less than one
minute when exposed to light. Photolytic action converts the organic
compound to a mixture of non-hazardous manganese oxides, carbonates,
and organics derived from methylcyclopentadiene. See MSDS for
further information.
